Karachi, April 12, 2025 – The All Pakistan Motorcycle Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association (MSPIDA) has announced its decision to launch a strong protest campaign against K-Electric due to ongoing, severe power outages that are crippling business activities in Karachi’s key motorcycle spare parts markets.
In a strongly worded statement, MSPIDA warned that if uninterrupted power supply is not restored immediately, the association will be forced to stage a sit-in protest on the busy M.A. Jinnah Road. The protest may include blocking the main artery, bringing traffic to a standstill as a sign of growing frustration within the business community.
MSPIDA Chairman Sohail Usman, Vice Chairman Ijaz Usman, and Chairman of MSPIDA’s Public Utilities Committee, Nasir Maqbool, were joined by traders and dealers from Orangi Market, Taj Mahal Market, Saira Mansion, and Shirazi Market in condemning K-Electric’s failure to provide consistent electricity. According to MSPIDA, despite receiving 100% of the billed payments from the area’s shopkeepers, K-Electric is supplying only four hours of electricity daily between 10:30 AM and 8:00 PM — leaving the market in darkness for nearly six hours each day.
“This is unacceptable. Businesses that are paying full electricity bills and taxes are being punished with unbearable loadshedding,” said Chairman Sohail Usman. “Such neglect not only causes huge financial losses but also endangers security by providing cover for criminal activity.”
MSPIDA leaders revealed that they have held multiple meetings with K-Electric over the past year, raising concerns and requesting action. However, no practical steps have been taken, and the promises made by the utility company remain unfulfilled.
Despite these challenges, MSPIDA acknowledged the efforts of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), especially President Muhammad Javed Bilwani and other senior officials. Their interventions resulted in a NEPRA delegation visiting the affected areas and assuring resolution — though those assurances are yet to materialize.
MSPIDA has now issued a final warning: If K-Electric fails to immediately restore full power to the motorcycle spare parts market, the association will begin public demonstrations and road blockades in protest.
