FBR’s Medium Taxpayers Office records 29% growth in monthly revenue driven by stronger tax enforcement

KARACHI: The Medium Taxpayers Office (MTO) Karachi has recorded its highest-ever monthly tax collection, generating Rs42.21 billion in net revenue during June 2026, reflecting a strong year-on-year increase of 29%.

The office collected Rs42.21 billion during the month compared with Rs32.60 billion in June 2025, underscoring robust revenue growth at one of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) key field formations responsible for medium-sized taxpayers.

According to official figures, the gross tax collection of MTO Karachi also rose significantly to around Rs46 billion in June 2026, compared with Rs37.36 billion in the corresponding month last year.

Income tax remained the largest contributor to the office’s revenue performance. Net income tax collection surged to nearly Rs18 billion, compared with Rs12.26 billion in June 2025, registering an impressive 47% growth year-on-year.

Meanwhile, sales tax collection increased to Rs13.89 billion during June 2026 from Rs12.25 billion in the same month last year, reflecting a 13% increase.

Officials at MTO Karachi attributed the record revenue performance to the effective implementation of tax laws, improved compliance and enhanced enforcement measures carried out in line with policy guidelines issued by the Federal Board of Revenue.

The strong June performance is expected to support the FBR’s overall revenue collection for fiscal year 2025-26 as the tax authority continues its efforts to broaden the tax base, strengthen enforcement and improve voluntary compliance across various sectors of the economy.
