Multan Sultans delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Islamabad United by five wickets in the fourth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
Josh Philippe Leads the Chase
Chasing a competitive target of 172, Multan Sultans comfortably reached 175/5 in 18.4 overs, powered by a brilliant half-century from Josh Philippe. The wicketkeeper-batter anchored the innings with a composed 55 off 35 balls, smashing five boundaries and two sixes.
The Sultans faced an early setback when Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed cheaply. However, Philippe stabilized the innings with a 45-run partnership alongside Steve Smith, who contributed a valuable 31 runs on his PSL debut.
Middle-Order Partnerships Seal Victory
Shadab Khan, leading Islamabad United, struck twice in quick succession to put pressure on Multan, reducing them to 70/3. But Philippe then forged a match-defining 61-run stand with captain Ashton Turner, who remained unbeaten on 43.
Late fireworks from Arafat Minhas, who scored a quick 25, ensured the Sultans crossed the finish line with ease.
For Islamabad United, Shadab Khan and Salman Irshad picked up two wickets each but failed to contain the opposition’s strong batting display.

Earlier, Islamabad United posted 171/8 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first. The innings was anchored by Mark Chapman, who scored a quick 40 off 23 balls, while Devon Conway added 26.
All-rounder Faheem Ashraf chipped in with a late cameo of 26 runs to push the total past the 170 mark.

For Multan Sultans, Momin Qamar was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3/24, while Mohammad Wasim Jr supported well with two wickets.
