NAB to Drop Unnecessary Cases Against Business Community

Karachi, January 16, 2024 – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has taken a positive step towards fostering a supportive environment for the business community by agreeing to drop unnecessary cases.

Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), revealed this outcome after a high-profile meeting with the Chairman of NAB, Lt Gen (Retd) Nazir Ahmed.

President Atif Ikram Sheikh highlighted the candid nature of the meeting with Chairman NAB, where concerns over pending NAB cases against the business community were discussed in detail. According to Sheikh, Chairman NAB expressed a commitment to facilitate the business community and ensure that there is no unjust harassment faced by the trade and industry.

In his elaboration, Atif Ikram Sheikh disclosed that Chairman NAB pledged to review and reassess the pending NAB cases related to the business community. He assured that all cases deemed not genuine, valid, or unnecessary would be promptly dropped. This reassessment process is expected to conclude within the next two months, providing a swift resolution to concerns raised by the business community.

The meeting included the participation of Mr. Husnain Ahmed, Director General Operations, NAB, and Mr. Javed Akber Riaz, Director General, NAB Sindh. Alongside President FPCCI, the FPCCI delegation comprised key figures such as Mr. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, SVP FPCCI; Mr. Asif Inam, VP FPCCI; Mr. Khalid Tawab, Hanif Gohar, Mazhar Ali Nasir & Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, former SVPs FPCCI; Mr. Ahmed Chinoy, and Mr. Mustafa Shekhani, among other top business community leaders.

Atif Ikram Sheikh emphasized the business community’s commitment to upholding the law of the land, underlining its peaceful and law-abiding nature. He noted that creating a conducive environment for business, commercial, industrial, trade, and economic activities is essential for the society’s overall well-being.

Furthermore, President FPCCI shared that Chairman NAB extended an invitation to the business community to bring any cases of harassment or bribery to his attention. This proactive measure aims to protect and resolve such cases promptly, demonstrating a collaborative approach between NAB and the business community.

Chairman NAB acknowledged and appreciated the vital role played by the business community in sustaining the national economy. He recognized their efforts in creating employment opportunities and generating revenues for the country.
