Natalie Portman hints at Jedi return in Star Wars universe

Hollywood star Natalie Portman has sparked excitement among Star Wars fans by revealing she would be open to returning to the galaxy far, far away — this time, wielding a lightsaber.

The 43-year-old actress, best known to Star Wars audiences as Padmé Amidala, made the thrilling revelation during a recent appearance on the British talk show The One Show.

Portman, who portrayed Padmé in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, including The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith, was asked if she’d ever consider reprising her role. Much to fans’ delight, she responded with enthusiasm: “I think she’d have to be a Jedi. If somehow she were brought back from the dead. That would be exciting.”

This comment ignited speculation and curiosity about whether the franchise might explore alternate timelines or story arcs that could resurrect her beloved character in a new form — perhaps even as a powerful Jedi. Portman’s Padmé, though never a Force-user in the original films, played a pivotal political and emotional role in the Star Wars saga.

Her appearance on the talk show was part of her promotional tour for her upcoming film Fountain of Youth, directed by Guy Ritchie, which is set for release on May 23, 2025. The film marks another dynamic role for Portman, whose career spans drama, action, and sci-fi, and includes two Golden Globe wins and an Academy Award.

Outside of the Star Wars universe, Portman has also been vocal about the shifting trends in the entertainment industry. In a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, she shared her thoughts on cinema’s evolution, stating, “The striking thing has been the decline of film as a primary form of entertainment. It feels much more niche now.”

Portman also made headlines in 2023 for her separation from husband Benjamin Millepied. Despite personal challenges, she continues to command attention with both her performances and candid reflections on the film world.

Whether or not her dream of returning to Star Wars as a Jedi becomes reality, Natalie Portman has certainly reignited fans’ imaginations with the possibility.
