Jaden Lennox shines with four wickets as New Zealand move ahead 2-1 in the five-match ODI series against West Indies.
New Zealand delivered a dominant all-round performance to beat West Indies by six wickets in the third One-Day International (ODI), taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
The visitors were in complete control throughout the match, first restricting West Indies to a modest total before comfortably chasing down the target with more than 10 overs to spare. The victory puts New Zealand in a strong position as the series heads into its final two matches.
After being asked to bat, West Indies struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for just 140 runs in 37.1 overs. The Caribbean batting lineup failed to cope with New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack, with only three batters managing to reach double figures.
Casey Carty was the top scorer for West Indies with a fighting knock of 48 runs. Akeem Auguste and Shimron Hetmyer contributed 26 runs each, but the rest of the batting order failed to offer significant resistance. Frequent wickets prevented the hosts from establishing momentum, resulting in a below-par total.
New Zealand spinner Jaden Lennox was the standout performer with the ball, claiming four crucial wickets to dismantle the West Indies batting lineup. Captain Mitchell Santner and all-rounder Michael Bracewell also played important roles, taking two wickets each to maintain pressure throughout the innings.
In reply, New Zealand approached the chase cautiously and steadily reached the target of 141 runs. The visitors finished on 141 for four in 39.3 overs, securing a comfortable six-wicket victory.
Several New Zealand batters made useful contributions during the chase. Tom Latham led the scoring with 31 runs, while Daryl Mitchell added 28.
Henry Nicholls scored 24 and Will Young chipped in with 23 runs. Dan Foxcroft remained unbeaten on 22 to guide his side across the finish line.
For West Indies, Vital Lawes was the most successful bowler, picking up three wickets. However, the low total left the bowlers with little room for error.
With this victory, New Zealand now hold a valuable 2-1 advantage in the five-match ODI series and will look to extend their lead in the upcoming fixture.
