Nomination Process Commences for Elections 2024

Islamabad, December 19, 2023 – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to kick off the nomination process for the General Elections 2024, with the acceptance of nomination papers starting from December 20, 2023.

The forthcoming elections, scheduled for February 8, 2024, have generated anticipation and excitement as political players gear up to participate in the democratic process.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Election Commission announced the timeline for the submission of nomination papers, marking a crucial phase in the lead-up to the General Elections. Nomination papers will be received from tomorrow, December 20, until Friday, December 22, 2023, providing a three-day window for candidates to formalize their intentions to contest in the upcoming elections.

As part of the election timeline outlined by the Election Commission, the list of candidates is slated for publication on December 23. Subsequently, the scrutiny process will take place from December 24 to December 30, ensuring that candidates meet the necessary eligibility criteria and adhere to the legal requirements.

To maintain transparency and accountability, the Election Commission has established a system for appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers. Candidates or concerned parties can file appeals by the 3rd of the following month. These appeals will be deliberated upon by Appellate Tribunals, with decisions expected to be reached by the 10th of the subsequent month.

A revised list of candidates will then be displayed on the 11th of the following month, providing clarity on the finalized pool of contestants. Candidates have until the 12th of the following month to withdraw their nomination papers, allowing for any necessary adjustments to the final list.

On the 13th of the following month, the Election Commission will allot election symbols to political parties, a symbolic step that adds to the visual identity of each participating party. This crucial element contributes to the overall electoral process, fostering recognition among voters.

The culmination of these preparatory steps will lead to the highly anticipated polling day on February 8, 2024, when citizens across Pakistan will exercise their democratic right to vote and shape the future leadership of the country.

The General Elections 2024 hold particular significance as they represent a democratic milestone in Pakistan’s political landscape. The nomination process marks the initiation of a series of events that will unfold in the coming weeks, shaping the narrative of the electoral landscape and providing citizens with the opportunity to engage actively in the democratic process.
