Bobi Deep-1 well starts producing 2,000 barrels of oil per day after successful discovery in Sanghar district

KARACHI: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has commenced oil production from the Bobi Deep-1 well in Sindh, marking a significant step towards increasing Pakistan’s domestic oil output and enhancing energy security.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), OGDCL announced that the Bobi Deep-1 well, located in the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease in Sanghar district, is currently producing approximately 2,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).

The commencement of production follows the company’s announcement earlier this month regarding a successful oil discovery at Bobi Deep-1 from the Massive Sand reservoir of the Lower Goru Formation.

OGDCL Fast-Tracks Production

OGDCL said it accelerated the commercialisation of the discovery by installing a 4-inch, 1.5-kilometre flowline connecting the well to the Bobi Processing Plant.

The company completed the required infrastructure within a short period, enabling early production from the newly discovered reserves and allowing the project to begin contributing to domestic oil supplies without delay.

Officials said the rapid development reflects the company’s focus on maximising the value of new discoveries through efficient execution and operational expertise.

Supporting Pakistan’s Energy Security

As the sole operator with a 100 per cent working interest in the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease, OGDCL said the project highlights its commitment to developing indigenous hydrocarbon resources through local technical capabilities.

The additional production is expected to support Pakistan’s growing energy requirements and help reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, which continue to place pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

Pakistan remains a net importer of energy, making domestic oil and gas discoveries increasingly important for improving energy security and reducing import costs.

Positive Impact on Energy Sector

Industry analysts view the start of production from Bobi Deep-1 as a positive development for Pakistan’s exploration and production sector.

The additional output is expected to contribute to OGDCL’s overall production portfolio and support the company’s financial performance. It also underscores the importance of continued investment in exploration activities to meet the country’s rising energy demand.

With production now underway, Bobi Deep-1 represents another addition to Pakistan’s indigenous energy resources and reinforces efforts to strengthen long-term energy sustainability.

OGDCL disclosed the development in accordance with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and Clause 5.6.1(a) of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Regulations.
