England fast bowler breaks into Test bowling top five after eight-wicket haul against Pakistan
LONDON: England fast bowler Ollie Robinson has climbed six places to fifth in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings following a series of impressive performances against Pakistan.
Robinson earned consecutive Player of the Match awards in England’s ICC World Test Championship series against Pakistan. His latest standout performance came at Lord’s, where the right-arm seamer claimed eight wickets to help England secure the three-match series.
The strong showing lifted Robinson into the top five of the Test bowling rankings for the first time since July 2023.
Australia’s Mitchell Starc retained the No.1 position after moving ahead of India’s Jasprit Bumrah last month.
Several other fast bowlers also made significant gains. Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando climbed four places to 11th after taking four wickets against India in Colombo.
England pacer Josh Tongue also moved up four spots to share 13th place, while Pakistan seamer Mohammad Abbas jumped 10 places to joint 15th.
Harry Brook retains top batting position
England batter Harry Brook retained the No.1 position in the Test batting rankings despite scores of 15 and 34 in the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s.
Australia’s Steve Smith moved into second place, while England’s Joe Root dropped to third.
Sri Lanka batter Kamindu Mendis was among the major movers inside the top 10, rising two places to 10th after scoring a half-century in the second innings against India in Colombo.
Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel made significant progress outside the top 10, climbing 15 places to 18th.
Sri Lanka youngster Sonal Dinusha jumped 29 places to 25th, while India batter Devdutt Padikkal moved five spots to 54th.
Brevis makes major T20I rankings jump
The latest ICC rankings also featured notable changes in the T20I lists, with South Africa’s Dewald Brevis among the biggest movers.
Brevis climbed six places to fourth in the T20I batting rankings after scoring 75, 75 not out and 41 in three matches during the ongoing tri-series in Namibia.
India’s Ishan Kishan remains at the top, followed by Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan in second and India’s Abhishek Sharma in third.
Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan retained the No.1 position among T20I bowlers.
Zimbabwe pacer Brad Evans climbed eight places to 26th, while South Africa left-arm fast bowler Kwena Maphaka made one of the biggest jumps, rising 24 places to 54th.
The latest rankings reflect strong individual performances across the Test and T20I formats, with several established and emerging players making substantial gains following impressive displays for their respective teams.
