The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a directive to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to uphold uninterrupted supplies of petroleum products throughout the Eid holidays.
In a communique dispatched to the OMCs, OGRA underscored the critical importance of maintaining consistent access to petroleum products during the festive period. The directive mandates the operation of all depots and installations under OMCs’ purview during Eid, with the exception of the first and second days of the holiday.
The directive further stipulates that OMCs must optimize the movement of petroleum products from the southern regions to the northern areas of the country. This strategic measure aims to alleviate any potential imbalances in supply and demand, ensuring that all regions receive adequate fuel provisions.
Particular emphasis has been placed on ensuring smooth and uninterrupted supplies at retail outlets, particularly those located near major transportation arteries such as motorways and highways. These outlets, often witnessing high sales volumes, are crucial nodes in the distribution network and must be adequately stocked to meet consumer demand.
To mitigate logistical challenges and prevent disruptions in supply chains, OMCs have been instructed to refrain from prolonged and unattended parking of oil tankers at private parking lots. Such practices can impede the timely distribution of petroleum products and exacerbate shortages in critical areas. Additionally, OMCs are urged to avoid hoarding excessive stock on wheels, which could further strain logistical resources and hinder the efficient delivery of fuel.
The directive from OGRA comes amidst heightened anticipation of increased travel and consumption patterns during the Eid holidays. Traditionally, Eid ul Fitr is marked by extensive travel as families reunite to celebrate the culmination of Ramadan. This surge in mobility necessitates robust measures to safeguard the availability of essential commodities, including petroleum products, to support the needs of the populace.
The proactive stance taken by OGRA underscores the regulatory body’s commitment to ensuring the stability and resilience of the country’s energy infrastructure, particularly during periods of heightened demand.
