Pak Navy, Customs confiscate huge cache of liquor

Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Customs successfully intercepted and confiscated a substantial quantity of foreign-origin smuggled liquor in a joint open-sea operation.

The operation, conducted near Lasbela’s coastline at Vandar Daam, resulted in the seizure of 4600 bottles of foreign liquor as part of the ongoing crackdown against smuggling.

The Model Customs Collectorate in Gwadar, in conjunction with Pakistan Navy, orchestrated the operation, effectively thwarting an attempt to smuggle a significant volume of foreign liquor into Pakistan from an undisclosed foreign country. The joint effort not only resulted in the confiscation of the contraband but also led to the apprehension of five individuals involved in the smuggling operation.

Preliminary estimates value the confiscated foreign liquor bottles in the millions of rupees, underscoring the magnitude of the illegal activity that the joint operation successfully disrupted. The seized items will undergo further investigation to uncover additional details about the smuggling network and its operations.

The concerted action aligns with the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) steadfast commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling. The FBR has been actively enhancing vigilance and surveillance measures to curb illicit activities along the borders. The successful joint operation serves as a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between different arms of law enforcement and security agencies.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin commended the FBR for the success of its anti-smuggling drive across the country, highlighting the importance of such operations in curbing illegal activities and protecting national interests. Chairman FBR and Secretary Revenue Division, Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Member Customs (Ops) FBR, Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, in ensuring zero tolerance against smuggling in all its forms.

The commitment to fighting smuggling extends beyond the immediate impact on illegal trade. By maximizing efforts to prevent smuggling activities, authorities aim to enhance tax compliance, protect local industries, and ensure the safety and well-being of the general public. The joint operation’s success reinforces the importance of collaboration and coordination between different agencies to address the multifaceted challenges posed by smuggling networks.

As investigations unfold, the authorities will work to trace the origins of the smuggled liquor, identify the individuals involved in the operation, and take necessary legal actions to deter future attempts at illegal trade. The joint operation stands as a testament to the resolve of Pakistani authorities to combat smuggling and promote a secure and lawful environment for economic activities and public welfare.
