Islamabad, September 21, 2023 – Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in New York on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly session to discuss the measures taken by the government to stabilize the country’s economy.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Kakar expressed gratitude to the IMF for approving a three billion dollar Stand-By Agreement, which is intended to provide vital support to Pakistan’s economy. He emphasized that the government’s efforts have been focused on protecting the vulnerable segments of society during these challenging economic times.
The Prime Minister provided an overview of the various measures implemented by the government to stabilize and revive Pakistan’s economy. These measures have been designed to create a stable and conducive environment for sustainable economic growth and investment.
In response, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva commended Pakistan for its concerted efforts in implementing policies and reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy. She assured the Prime Minister of the IMF’s commitment to continued engagement with Pakistan.
