Pakistan customs to collect duty, taxes on Saturday-Sunday

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed all the collectorates of Pakistan Customs to observe extended working days on Saturday and Sunday.

The announcement comes after the government declared five holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr from April 21st, 2023.

According to an official note, all field offices will remain open and observe extended working hours till 10:00 PM on Saturday, April 29, 2023, and till 12:00 midnight on Sunday, April 30, 2023, for the collection of duty and taxes. The FBR directed chief collectors of customs to establish liaison with the State Bank of Pakistan and authorized branches of National Bank of Pakistan to ensure the transfer of the duties and taxes collected by these branches to the respective branches of the State Bank of Pakistan on the same date.

Last week, the FBR had also issued instructions to offices of Inland Revenue for the collection of revenue on April 29th and 30th, 2023, to cover up time lost due to Eid holidays. During the holy month of Ramazan, offices across the country are observing reduced working hours. Combined with the closure of public offices during Eid holidays, this has created a challenge for businesses to deposit their duty and taxes in the government exchequer.

To address this issue, the FBR has decided to keep all tax offices open and observe extended working hours until 6:30 PM on April 29th and 30th, 2023. The move aims to facilitate taxpayers in payment of duty and taxes. The FBR hopes that the directive will help to collect the maximum amount of taxes for the month of April 2023.
