Abdullah Shafique and Sajid Khan inspire Pakistan to level the series and secure their first away Test victory in more than three years.

Pakistan finally brought an end to their prolonged struggles in away Test cricket with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday.

The impressive win not only helped the visitors level the two-match series but also snapped an eight-match losing streak in overseas Test matches.

The Green Shirts entered the Caribbean tour under new leadership after Babar Azam returned as Test captain, replacing Shan Masood.

However, the campaign began on a disappointing note as Pakistan suffered a 90-run defeat in the opening Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, extending their unwanted run of losses away from home.

Pakistan’s difficult sequence in overseas Tests had begun during their tour of Australia in the 2023-24 season.

They were comprehensively beaten 3-0, suffering defeats by 360 runs in Perth, 79 runs in Melbourne and eight wickets in Sydney. Those results marked the start of a challenging period for the national side in foreign conditions.

The disappointing performances continued during the 2024-25 tour of South Africa. Pakistan narrowly lost the first Test in Centurion by two wickets before enduring a crushing 10-wicket defeat in Cape Town.

The team’s overseas struggles persisted into their Bangladesh tour in May 2026, where defeats by 104 runs in Dhaka and 78 runs in Sylhet pushed the losing streak to eight consecutive away Tests.

Pakistan’s fortunes finally changed in the second Test against the West Indies, thanks to a brilliant all-round team performance. Opener Abdullah Shafique played a match-winning innings of 160 runs, providing the foundation for the visitors’ success.

Spinner Sajid Khan also delivered a match-defining display with the ball, claiming impressive match figures of 8 wickets for 117 runs to dismantle the West Indies batting lineup.

The victory marked Pakistan’s first away Test win since their successful tour of Sri Lanka in July 2023, when they secured a 2-0 series victory under the captaincy of Babar Azam.

The latest triumph also highlighted the immediate impact of the leadership change as Pakistan returned to winning ways in overseas conditions.

In addition to ending their own drought, Pakistan denied the West Indies a historic series victory. The Caribbean side had been aiming to register their first Test series win over Pakistan since 2000.

Since that triumph, the two teams have contested nine bilateral Test series, with Pakistan winning four and the remaining five ending in draws.

The result ensures Pakistan’s dominance in the rivalry remains intact while providing renewed confidence ahead of future overseas assignments.
