Pakistan establishes national task force for adopting Artificial Intelligence

Pakistan has set up a National Task Force (NTF) with the goal of adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to drive national development.

The task force will be made up of experts in AI, as well as representatives from both the government and private sectors.

According to a news release issued on Saturday, the NTF’s main objective is to develop a 10-year roadmap for accelerating the adoption of AI in various sectors, including business, development, governance, education, and healthcare. The task force aims to harness the power of AI for Pakistan’s growth and development while ensuring that the benefits are accessible to all segments of society.

The establishment of the NTF is part of the government’s commitment to embracing the potential of AI to transform the country’s economic landscape positively. Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the importance of AI for progress in the near future, stating that “It (AI) will bring transformative changes in the fields of economy, governance, and education.”

Professor Iqbal also noted that integrating AI into governance, healthcare, and education systems could revolutionize these sectors and bring about significant progress. He emphasized that from improving decision-making processes to personalized medical treatments and enhancing learning experiences, AI could offer solutions that were previously unattainable.

The NTF’s formation builds on the PML-N government’s 2018 establishment of the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence. According to the minister, “By investing in AI, Pakistan can unlock new opportunities for growth and development and improve the lives of its citizens.”

In conclusion, Pakistan’s new NTF for adopting AI is a significant step towards embracing the transformative potential of this technology to drive the country’s development. With the involvement of experts and representatives from both the public and private sectors, the task force is well-equipped to develop a comprehensive road-map for accelerated adoption of AI across various sectors, benefiting all segments of society.
