Islamabad and Paris review UN priorities, peace and security issues, and opportunities to expand coordination in multilateral forums.
Pakistan and France held consultations on multilateral affairs in Paris on Friday, reaffirming their commitment to closer coordination on international issues and strengthening cooperation through global forums.
The discussions were conducted under the framework of the Pakistan-France Bilateral Roadmap agreed in 2023. The initiative aims to expand bilateral engagement in the multilateral sphere while enabling both countries to work jointly on emerging global challenges.
The Pakistani delegation was headed by Ambassador Nabeel Munir, Special Secretary for the United Nations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
France was represented by Nathalie Broadhurst, Director for the United Nations, International Organisations, Human Rights and Francophonie at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
During the consultations, both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and reinforcing cooperation in support of effective multilateralism. They also reiterated their commitment to the principles and objectives outlined in the United Nations Charter.
The delegations exchanged perspectives on several major international initiatives, including the UN80 agenda, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and financing for development.
The discussions reflected a shared interest in strengthening international institutions and advancing collective responses to global challenges.
Regional and international developments also featured prominently in the talks. Pakistan and France agreed on the importance of closer coordination in multilateral platforms, particularly the United Nations, on matters related to international peace and security.
Other areas discussed included UN peacekeeping operations, counter-terrorism efforts and potential reforms of the United Nations system. The consultations provided an opportunity for both countries to assess progress in their existing multilateral cooperation and identify areas where further collaboration could be developed.
The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive environment, with both sides seeking to build greater momentum in Pakistan-France relations. The discussions also focused on identifying new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation on issues of shared interest.
As part of efforts to maintain the dialogue, Pakistan and France agreed to convene the next round of consultations on multilateral affairs in Islamabad. The meeting will take place on dates to be mutually agreed by the two countries.
