Pakistan Met Issues Weather Forecast for April 19, 2024

Karachi, April 18, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its weather forecast for Friday, April 19, 2024, warning of rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in various parts of the country.

The weather forecast issued by Pakistan Met office highlights the potential for heavy rainfall, flash flooding, landslides, and damage to crops and structures due to adverse weather conditions.

According to the PMD, rain, windstorm, thunderstorm, and hailstorms are expected in most areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, and north Baluchistan on April 19. Additionally, snowfall is likely in mountainous regions of the northern areas.

The PMD has issued a warning regarding heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in local nullahs and streams of several regions, including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Manshera, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and tributaries of the Kabul River. Landslides are also anticipated in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, posing risks to vulnerable locations.

The weather department has cautioned about the potential damage caused by windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning, including harm to standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.

The synoptic situation indicates the influence of a trough of strong westerly wave affecting most parts of the country, extending to upper regions on April 19.

For Thursday, April 18, 2024, the PMD forecasted similar weather conditions, with rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms expected in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, Baluchistan, and Sindh. Isolated heavy falls are likely in north Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir, with snowfall expected in mountainous areas of the northern regions.

During the past 24 hours, rain, wind, and thunderstorms occurred in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Punjab, with heavy rainfall recorded in south Balochistan. Notable rainfall figures include Ormara in Balochistan with 69mm, Pasni with 35mm, and Quetta with 25mm. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Parachinar recorded 9mm, while in Kashmir, Rawalakot received 4mm of rainfall.

The highest maximum temperatures recorded on Thursday were 40°C in Bahawalnagar, and 38°C in Jacobabad, Khanpur, Mithi, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

The PMD advises residents and authorities to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential risks associated with adverse weather conditions, including flash floods, landslides, and damage to property and infrastructure.
