Pakistan Met Predicts Rising Summer Heat for April 12

Karachi, April 11, 2024 – Brace yourselves for soaring temperatures as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts a significant increase in summer heat across the nation for Friday, April 12, 2024.

The PMD’s latest forecast for Thursday, April 11, 2024, indicates a continuation of summer heat with dry weather anticipated in most parts of the country. However, upper regions may experience partly cloudy conditions.

Despite the prevailing dry spell, isolated rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are expected in specific areas including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, north/northeast Balochistan, the Potohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas.

According to the synoptic situation provided by the PMD, continental air masses dominate most regions of Pakistan. Additionally, a shallow trough of a westerly wave is anticipated to influence northwestern and upper parts of the country starting from tomorrow evening/night.

Reflecting on the weather patterns of Thursday, April 11, 2024, the PMD reports predominantly dry conditions across the country with partial cloud cover in upper regions. However, isolated instances of rain, wind, and thunderstorms are predicted in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly areas during the evening/night.

Over the past 24 hours, dry weather prevailed in the majority of the country, with southern regions experiencing hot temperatures. However, sporadic rain, wind, and thunderstorms occurred at isolated locations in the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.

Rainfall was recorded as follows: In Punjab, notable accumulations included 57mm in Chakwal, 9mm in Mandi Bahauddin and Murree, and 4mm in Gujrat. Meanwhile, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kalam received 14mm and Kakul received 12mm. In Kashmir, Muzaffarabad (Airport 6mm & City 4mm) and Rawalakot (5mm) saw significant precipitation.

Moreover, Thursday’s recorded highest maximum temperatures reached 43°C in Jacobabad and Dadu, and 42°C in Shaheed Benazirabad, Padidan, Khanpur, Sukkur, Rohri, and Mohenjodaro.
