Petrol price cut by Rs3.13, diesel hiked by Rs3.74 for next three days

The government has lowered the petrol price to Rs345.87 per litre while raising HSD to Rs378.05, effective from September 5, 2026.

ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced the petrol price by Rs3.13 per litre while increasing the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs3.74 per litre for the next three days, effective from September 5, 2026.

According to the latest price documents, the total petrol price, excluding secondary freight, fell from Rs349.00 per litre on September 4 to Rs345.87 on September 5.

In contrast, the total HSD price increased from Rs374.31 to Rs378.05 per litre over the same period.

Petrol price drops Rs3.13 per litre

The latest calculation shows a Rs3.13 per litre decline in the petrol price.

The Platts Arab Gulf Mean Average for petrol increased from $109.46 per barrel on September 4 to $111.50 on September 5. However, the premium including freight fell substantially from $14.97 to $11.79 per barrel, bringing the overall Cost & Freight component down from $124.43 to $123.28 per barrel.

The petrol cost at Karachi Port declined from Rs217.38 to Rs215.95 per litre, while customs duty fell from Rs20.96 to Rs19.47 per litre.

The Inland Freight Equalisation Margin (IFEM), however, increased slightly from Rs7.45 to Rs7.60 per litre.

The petroleum levy remained unchanged at Rs80 per litre, while the Climate Support Levy stayed at Rs5 per litre. Sales tax remained zero in both calculations.

As a result, the price before the petroleum levy, Climate Support Levy and sales tax declined from Rs264.00 to Rs260.87 per litre, bringing the total petrol price down to Rs345.87 per litre.

Diesel price jumps Rs3.74 per litre

The latest calculation presents a contrasting picture for HSD, with the diesel price increasing by Rs3.74 per litre.

The Dubai Crude Oil Platts Arab Gulf Mean Average rose from $95.74 to $97.86 per barrel, pushing the Cost & Freight component from $144.13 to $146.25 per barrel.

The diesel cost at Karachi Port consequently increased from Rs251.82 to Rs255.50 per litre.

The ex-refinery/import price rose from Rs267.50 to Rs271.18 per litre, while the IFEM increased marginally from Rs3.96 to Rs4.02 per litre.

The Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) margin remained unchanged at Rs7.87 per litre, while the dealers’ margin stayed at Rs9.98 per litre.

The petroleum levy remained at Rs80 per litre, while the Climate Support Levy stood at Rs5 per litre and sales tax remained zero.

Consequently, the total HSD price increased from Rs374.31 to Rs378.05 per litre, resulting in the Rs3.74 per litre increase in the latest calculation.

Petrol and diesel prices move in opposite directions

The latest comparison highlights a significant divergence in petroleum prices, with petrol falling by Rs3.13 per litre while HSD increased by Rs3.74 per litre between the two daily price publications.

The changes were primarily driven by movements in international petroleum prices and related import costs, while major government-imposed charges, including the petroleum levy and Climate Support Levy, remained unchanged. Sales tax also remained at zero in both calculations.
