ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices for the next three days, with the revised rates taking effect from October 3 to October 5.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol has been increased by Rs2.10 per litre to Rs392.76, while HSD has risen by 30 paisas to Rs399.64 per litre.

The adjustment comes amid fluctuations in international oil prices and growing volatility in global energy markets.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has also started publishing daily petroleum prices on its website as part of a new mechanism designed to improve transparency and allow changes in international prices to be reflected more quickly in domestic fuel rates.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said daily prices would be calculated using a seven-day average of international market prices, following international practices.

Under the new framework, OGRA will announce daily ex-depot prices for petrol and HSD without requiring prior approval from the prime minister or federal government. Prices announced on Fridays will remain unchanged over Saturday and Sunday.

The framework also provides that the petroleum levy cannot exceed the limit approved by the federal cabinet, while changes to the levy require approval from the Finance Division.
