Petrol price jumps Rs12.90 per litre in Pakistan

Petrol rises to Rs358.77 per litre while HSD increases to Rs381.77 amid global oil market volatility

ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs12.90 and Rs3.72 per litre, respectively, amid continued volatility in international oil markets.

Under the revised rates effective September 8, 2026, petrol will now cost Rs358.77 per litre, up from Rs345.87, while HSD will be priced at Rs381.77 per litre, compared with Rs378.05 previously.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised fuel prices took effect on September 8.

Petrol and HSD prices revised

The latest adjustment has pushed the petrol price up by Rs12.90 per litre, while the price of HSD has increased by Rs3.72 per litre.

The government said the latest revision comes against the backdrop of volatility in global oil markets following renewed hostilities in the Middle East.

The new rates will apply from September 8 as authorities continue to monitor developments in international oil markets and their impact on domestic petroleum prices.

Daily petroleum price review introduced

In response to fluctuations in international oil prices, the government has shifted to a daily petroleum price review mechanism.

The new mechanism is intended to allow changes in international oil prices to be reflected more quickly in domestic fuel rates.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has also started publishing daily petroleum prices on its website as part of efforts to improve transparency and provide consumers with timely information.

Seven-day average used for fuel price calculation

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said daily fuel prices are calculated using a seven-day average of international market prices, in line with international practice.

Under the revised mechanism, domestic fuel prices can therefore be adjusted in response to movements in international oil markets.

The government will continue monitoring global oil market developments and their impact on domestic petroleum prices as the new daily review system takes effect.
