Economic Survey 2025-26 shows strong growth in appliance manufacturing alongside gains in automobiles, cement and sugar
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan produced more than 74,000 deep freezers during the first nine months (July–March) of FY2025-26, reflecting strong growth in the domestic home appliances industry as manufacturing activity continued to recover.
According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26, the country manufactured 74,345 deep freezers during July–March FY2025-26, compared with 60,483 units in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, representing an increase of 22.92%.
Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed that deep freezer production contributed 0.03 percentage points to the overall growth of the Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) sector during the review period.
The increase highlights sustained expansion in Pakistan’s consumer appliances industry, supported by stronger industrial output and improving domestic demand.
Refrigerator manufacturing also recorded healthy growth during the period. Production increased by 8.30% to 561,127 units, compared with 518,101 units in July–March FY2024-25, underscoring rising activity across the household appliances segment.
The automobile industry remained one of the strongest-performing sectors of large-scale manufacturing. Production of cars and jeeps surged 62.73% to 157,518 units, making it the second-largest contributor to overall LSM growth after the sugar industry.
Other major manufacturing industries also posted encouraging gains. Cement production rose 9.13% to 31.15 million tonnes, while petroleum products output expanded 10.92% to 11.86 billion litres during the first nine months of the fiscal year.
The sugar industry emerged as the leading contributor to industrial growth, with production increasing 30.97% to 7.56 million tonnes, contributing 1.76 percentage points to overall LSM growth.
Despite the broad-based improvement, several manufacturing segments recorded declines. Production of upper leather fell 8.44%, liquids and syrups declined 7.01%, vegetable ghee dropped 3.0%, nitrogenous fertilisers decreased 1.40%, and tea blending contracted 10.04% during the period under review.
The Economic Survey 2025-26 indicates that Pakistan’s manufacturing sector maintained positive momentum during July–March FY2025-26, driven by robust growth in consumer appliances, automobiles, sugar, cement and petroleum products, despite continued weakness in a handful of industrial segments.
