Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Ties with the United States

Islamabad, August 25, 2023 – Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with the United States, particularly in critical areas such as trade, investment, energy, security, and climate change.

Prime Minister Kakar made these remarks during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, who called on him in Islamabad.

Ambassador Blome extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Kakar on his recent assumption of office and reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Pakistan’s economic and developmental agenda.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Kakar highlighted the enduring and multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and the United States, rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and common interests. He expressed his satisfaction with the current positive trajectory of bilateral ties.

Prime Minister Kakar emphasized the caretaker government’s primary responsibility, which is to assist the Election Commission of Pakistan during the electoral process and ensure constitutional continuity throughout the period of democratic transition.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister commended the crucial role played by the United States in aiding Pakistan’s economic stability. He also reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to continuing its reform agenda to achieve sustainable economic growth.

In addressing the potential for increased economic collaboration, Prime Minister Kakar noted the traditional role that the U.S. private sector has played in supporting Pakistan’s economic development. He expressed hope that more U.S. companies would explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in the rapidly growing information technology sector.

Recognizing the valuable contributions of the Pakistani-American community to strengthening ties between the two nations, Prime Minister Kakar called for the expansion of people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and the United States.
