Pakistan Sets March 31–April 2 as Eid Holidays

Islamabad, March 19, 2025 – The government of Pakistan has officially declared three holidays in celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, allowing citizens to mark the festive occasion with their families and loved ones.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat, “The Prime Minister has been pleased to declare March 31 to April 2 (Monday to Wednesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.” These holidays will enable people across the country to observe the religious festival with traditional festivities and gatherings.

Meanwhile, preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr are underway as the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with zonal committees, is scheduled to convene on Sunday evening, March 30, to sight the moon of Shawwal. The moon sighting will determine the official end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s meeting will be held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, where religious scholars, meteorological experts, and other relevant stakeholders will collaborate to verify moon sighting reports from various regions of the country. The decision made during this meeting will set the final dates for the holidays and the commencement of Eid festivities.

Earlier, before the onset of Ramadan, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) released a report predicting that the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan is likely to fall on March 31, 2025. This aligns with the now-declared public holidays, ensuring citizens have ample time to engage in religious observances, social visits, and leisure activities during the much-anticipated holiday period.

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most significant religious festivals in Pakistan, and the government’s declaration of holidays will allow millions of people to travel to their hometowns, participate in community events, and enjoy traditional feasts with family and friends. With three consecutive holidays, businesses and government offices will remain closed, giving people the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the joyous occasion.
