Pakistan Shaheens’ Thrilling 43-Run Win Over Melbourne Stars

Shawaiz Irfan showcased an exceptional display of power-hitting and masterful bowling, leading Pakistan Shaheens to a stunning 43-run victory against Melbourne Stars in a thrilling Top End T20 Series encounter at TIO Stadium.

In a high-octane clash, Pakistan Shaheens won the toss and chose to bat, and their opening pair, Shamyl Hussain and the in-form Shawaiz Irfan, set the stage with a scintillating 60-run partnership.

Even after Shamyl’s early departure, captain Rohail Nazir joined forces with Shawaiz, adding another vital 50 runs for the second wicket.

Shawaiz’s explosive knock of 65 from just 37 balls, laced with five fours and four massive sixes, laid the foundation for a formidable total.

Despite Rohail’s departure in the 12th over, the late contributions from Wahaj Riaz (28* off 20 balls) and Ahmed Khan (19 off 16 balls, including one huge six) propelled Shaheens to an imposing 169 for six in 20 overs. Stars’ bowlers Arjun Nair and Reiley Mark put up a fight, each picking up two wickets.

In response, Melbourne Stars faced an uphill battle from the beginning, struggling to keep up with the required run-rate.

As wickets fell, they managed only 126 for eight in 17.1 overs. The task became even more challenging as Cam McClure and Campbell Kellaway couldn’t bat due to injury.

Shaheens’ bowlers displayed exceptional form, with left-arm spinner Faisal Akram leading the way with two crucial wickets for just 24 runs. Aaliyan Mehmood, Arafat Minhas, and Sajjad Ali also contributed with a wicket each, effectively extinguishing any hopes of a Stars’ comeback.

With their third consecutive victory, Pakistan Shaheens are brimming with confidence as they gear up to face PNG in their final round match at the DXC Arena on August 04, 2023.
