Pakistan’s textile exports rise to $3.38 billion in July-August FY2026-27, supported by stronger knitwear, garments, towels and cotton yarn shipments.
ISLAMABAD, September 18, 2026: Pakistan’s textile exports increased by 5.55 per cent during the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27, reaching $3.38 billion, compared with $3.20 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The growth was supported by higher exports of knitwear, readymade garments, towels and cotton yarn, although cotton cloth exports declined during the period.
Knitwear and garments drive textile exports
Exports of knitwear rose to around $1 billion during July-August FY2026-27, compared with $859 million in the same period last year, representing an increase of 4.79 per cent.
Readymade garment exports recorded stronger growth, rising 13.59 per cent to $827 million from $728 million in the corresponding period.
Bedwear exports, however, edged down by 0.31 per cent to $563.54 million, compared with $565 million a year earlier.
Exports of towels increased by 6.74 per cent, reaching $191 million from $179 million during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Cotton yarn exports surge
Cotton yarn emerged as one of the strongest-performing textile categories during the first two months of FY2026-27.
Exports of cotton yarn surged by 34.80 per cent to $160.68 million, compared with $119.20 million in July-August of the previous fiscal year.
However, cotton cloth exports recorded a decline of 7.66 per cent, falling to $276.25 million from $299.18 million.
Textile sector records mixed performance
The latest PBS figures show mixed performance across Pakistan’s major textile categories during the opening two months of FY2026-27.
Stronger growth in value-added segments, particularly readymade garments and knitwear, helped lift overall textile exports despite declines in cotton cloth and a marginal reduction in bedwear shipments.
The increase in textile exports comes as the sector remains a key contributor to Pakistan’s merchandise export earnings, with manufacturers continuing to focus on higher-value products and overseas markets.
