Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hails the accord as a historic victory for peace, diplomacy and Pakistan’s global standing.
ISLAMABAD, June 15, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that Pakistan would host the signing ceremony of the landmark US-Iran peace agreement in Geneva on June 19, describing the accord as a “monumental milestone” for global peace and a triumph of dialogue over conflict.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said the agreement marked a historic moment that would be remembered for generations.
“Today, the world has witnessed that the pursuit of peace has achieved a great victory and the flames of war have begun to subside. This is a historic moment that historians will record in golden letters,” he said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that the peace accord was reached after three months and sixteen days of intense efforts and challenges.
“Following the dark night of war, the sun of peace has finally risen,” he told lawmakers.
According to the prime minister, the agreement includes an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations between the United States and Iran across all fronts, including Lebanon.
“This is not just an agreement between two nations, but a victory for peace, dialogue, and diplomacy over the devastation of war,” he said, adding that Pakistan had been bestowed with a significant diplomatic honour through its role in facilitating the process.
The prime minister expressed gratitude to Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, and Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian for their leadership and commitment to achieving peace.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the negotiating teams from both countries, praising their wisdom, patience and perseverance during the talks.
Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated the Pakistani nation and thanked President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and leaders of other political parties for their support and guidance throughout the process.
He particularly commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his role in advancing peace efforts, stating that his unwavering commitment proved crucial during critical stages of the negotiations when the talks appeared close to collapse.
The premier also lauded Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, officials of the Foreign Ministry, and other state institutions for their dedicated efforts in securing the agreement.
Calling on the nation to offer prayers of gratitude, Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan had earned unprecedented respect and recognition on the international stage through its contribution to global peace.
Highlighting the economic consequences of the conflict, he noted that regional instability had placed considerable strain on Pakistan’s economy. However, he praised the resilience demonstrated by the nation during challenging times.
The prime minister further appreciated the cooperation of federal and provincial leadership, particularly the chief ministers, for their effective response throughout the period of uncertainty.
He assured citizens that the benefits of greater global economic stability resulting from the peace agreement would ultimately translate into improved conditions for the people of Pakistan.
“The government will continue working tirelessly to ensure that the dividends of peace and stability reach every Pakistani household,” he added.
