ISLAMABAD, May 6, 2026 — Pakistan and the United States discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade and advance ongoing negotiations during a virtual meeting between Jam Kamal Khan and Rick Switzer, officials said on Wednesday.

The talks focused on strengthening economic cooperation, improving market access, and working toward a balanced and mutually beneficial trade framework between the two countries.

At the outset, Switzer, representing the Office of the United States Trade Representative, appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and facilitating dialogue during recent developments, noting that such efforts contribute to a conducive environment for global trade.

Khan welcomed the acknowledgment and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to responsible global engagement and mediation. He said regional stability remains critical for sustaining trade flows, investment, and economic connectivity.

“Pakistan is committed to strengthening its trade relationship with the United States through a balanced, forward-looking framework that benefits both economies,” Khan said, highlighting opportunities to expand cooperation across key sectors.

Both sides discussed ongoing negotiations, including progress on an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), and agreed to maintain momentum through continued technical-level engagement. Jawad Paul said discussions had been constructive, with only a limited number of areas still under consideration.

The meeting also covered emerging areas such as digital trade and regulatory cooperation, reflecting the evolving nature of bilateral economic ties.

Switzer reaffirmed Washington’s willingness to work closely with Pakistan, expressing optimism about advancing a mutually beneficial trade arrangement.

Khan concluded by inviting U.S. officials to visit Pakistan, with both sides agreeing to remain in close contact to push negotiations forward in the coming weeks.
