The Pakistan Volleyball team touched down in Bahrain on Saturday, gearing up for the highly anticipated Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup 2024.
According to Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Chairman of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF), the team arrives with momentum following successive triumphs in the Central Asian Volleyball League and against Australia. Now, they’re primed to take on the challenge of the AVC Challenge Cup commencing on June 2.
Yaqoob highlighted the meticulous selection process led by head coach Ruben Wolochin from Argentina, ensuring the retention of the winning Central Asian Volleyball League squad. With high expectations for stellar performances, the team is eager to exhibit their prowess and national pride on the court.
In a competitive field of twelve teams, including Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Thailand in Pool B, Yaqoob expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and past experiences, setting optimistic prospects for their campaign in the Challenge Cup.
Pakistan’s journey kicks off with matches against Kazakhstan on June 2 and Thailand on June 3. With eyes set on progression, the quarterfinals are slated for June 6, followed by the semifinals and final on June 8 and June 9, respectively.
Leading the charge for the green-shirts is Murad Jehan, supported by Vice-Captain Muhammad Kasheef Naveed, and a roster comprising Waleed Khan, Murad Khan, Aimal Khan, Usman Faryad Ali, Fakhar Ud Din, Afaq Khan, Abdul Zaheer, Musawer Khan, Muhammad Hamad, Ali Haider, Nasir Ali, and Muhammad Yaseen.
The coaching staff, helmed by Argentine Ruben Wolochin, includes Saeed Ahmed Khan Sady and Ehsan Iqbal as assistant coaches, with Brazilian Lucas Rodrigues as the physical trainer. Muhammad Ismail Khan, Muhammad Sulaiman Amin, and Juan Cobucci, Scoutman from Argentina, bolster the team as Assistant Scoutmen.
