Islamabad says any attack on Pakistani maritime interests will be treated as a serious national security threat

Pakistan has strongly condemned continued threats issued by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, warning that any attack targeting Pakistani-flagged vessels or the country’s maritime interests would be considered a grave national security threat.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Pakistan said such threats undermine regional stability, challenge freedom of navigation and disrupt the rules-based maritime order that supports global trade.

The government said threats against commercial shipping and vessels engaged in lawful trade with Saudi Arabia were unacceptable and violated established principles of international law.

Pakistan warns against attacks on maritime interests

Pakistan expressed particular concern over reports that vessels involved in legitimate commercial trade with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had been specifically targeted with threats.

The statement reaffirmed that any hostile action against Pakistani-flagged ships or maritime assets would be treated as a serious threat to the country’s sovereignty and national security.

Islamabad said that under the Charter of the United Nations and international law, Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self-defence, to safeguard its maritime interests.

Support for Saudi Arabia reaffirmed

Pakistan also raised concerns over attempts to further involve Saudi Arabia in the ongoing regional conflict.

Reiterating its longstanding ties with Riyadh, Islamabad reaffirmed its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity.

Pakistan said it would continue supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions while promoting peace and stability in the region.

Call for protection of global shipping

The government urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect international law, avoid actions that could escalate tensions and ensure the safety of international maritime routes.

Pakistan highlighted that secure shipping lanes, particularly in the Red Sea, remain essential for global commerce, energy supplies and economic stability.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over threats to commercial vessels operating in one of the world’s most important maritime corridors.
