ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast scattered rain-windstorms and thunderstorms across upper parts of the country on Friday, while most lowland regions are expected to remain hot and dry, officials said.
According to the latest advisory, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are likely to experience rain-thunderstorms at isolated to scattered locations. Intermittent wet weather is also expected in Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, northeastern Balochistan and upper Sindh.
In Islamabad and surrounding areas, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of rain-windstorms and thunderstorms during the day and evening hours. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious of gusty winds and temporary disruptions in outdoor activities.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, partly cloudy conditions will dominate most districts, with rain-thunderstorm activity expected in areas including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Peshawar, Kohat, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Kurram.
Punjab is also expected to witness unstable weather, with rain-windstorms and thunderstorms forecast in cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur. Light rain with gusty winds is likely in Murree and the Galliyat region, offering brief relief from rising temperatures.
In Sindh, hot and dry weather will dominate most districts, although partly cloudy conditions with isolated rain-thunderstorms may occur in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu and Jacobabad. Balochistan is expected to remain largely dry, though Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Khuzdar and Chaman may see isolated rain-wind activity.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are also likely to experience partly cloudy skies with scattered rain-thunderstorms.
Over the past 24 hours, most upper regions remained partly cloudy, while plains experienced intense heat. However, isolated rainfall was recorded in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab, including Parachinar and Bhakkar.
The highest recorded temperatures reached 44°C in Bahawalnagar, Jacobabad and Turbat, with several other cities exceeding 43°C, including Rohri, Dadu and Bahawalpur.
The PMD has advised the public to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to heat in plains, while also remaining alert to possible windstorms and lightning activity in northern regions during the forecast period.
