Islamabad, December 10, 2024 – Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued warning that a cold wave is expected to continue over most parts of Pakistan, particularly affecting the northern and hilly regions, where very cold weather conditions will prevail.

The cold wave is expected to intensify during the night and morning hours, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the extreme temperatures.

The weather across most of Pakistan will remain cold and dry, with very cold conditions expected in the hilly areas, especially during the morning and night hours. Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and the adjoining hilly regions are likely to experience light rain or snowfall at isolated places during the evening and night. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plains and the Potohar region will also experience frost during the morning hours, which may affect transportation and daily activities. In addition, shallow fog is expected in certain parts of South Punjab and Upper Sindh during the early morning hours, which may reduce visibility and impact road safety.

Continental air is currently prevailing over most parts of Pakistan, contributing to the dry and cold conditions. A shallow westerly wave is expected to approach the upper regions of the country from tonight, which could bring some light precipitation in the form of rain and snow, especially in the northern and higher-altitude areas.
