Islamabad, October 10, 2024 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its weather forecast for Friday, October 11, 2024, warning that the country is expected to experience predominantly hot and dry conditions.
According to the PMD, the majority of regions across Pakistan will see continued heat, with Sindh facing particularly intense temperatures.
The synoptic situation indicates that continental air is currently dominating over most parts of the country, which is responsible for the dry conditions. A shallow westerly wave is also present in the upper parts of Pakistan, but it is not expected to bring widespread relief from the heat.
Friday’s Forecast:
The PMD predicts that most regions will experience hot and dry weather, with the potential for scorching conditions in Sindh. However, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms may occur in some parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, offering brief respite to residents in these areas.
Thursday’s Observations:
On Thursday, similar weather patterns prevailed across the nation, with predominantly dry conditions reported. However, some regions experienced isolated rain and thunderstorms. These sporadic showers were reported in lower Sindh, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Kashmir.
Rainfall Report (in millimeters):
• Sindh: Tharparkar (Diplo 16 mm), Karachi (Bahria Town Phase III 6 mm, Phase II 3 mm)
• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Malam Jabba 5 mm, Pattan 4 mm, Kakul 2 mm
• Gilgit-Baltistan: Bagrote 3 mm, Astore 1 mm
• Kashmir: Muzaffarabad (Airport) 1 mm
Temperature Extremes:
In terms of temperatures, the heat has been particularly oppressive in Sindh, with some of the highest temperatures recorded in the country. The highest maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded in Chhor, where the mercury soared to 41°C. Other high temperatures were observed in Lasbela, Karachi, and Shaheed Benazirabad, all reaching 40°C.
Outlook:
As the country braces for another day of high temperatures, the PMD advises residents, particularly in Sindh, to take precautions against heat exposure and stay hydrated. Although the shallow westerly wave in the northern parts of the country could bring scattered showers, no major changes in the overall weather pattern are expected.
The PMD will continue to monitor the weather closely and provide updates as necessary. For now, hot and dry weather remains the dominant trend across Pakistan.
