Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued weather report for Friday, August 16, 2024 predicting monsoon system to affect many parts of the country.
In the weather report for Friday, August 16, 2024, the PMD stated rain-windstorm/thundershower (with few heavy rainfalls) is expected in Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern and south Balochistan and Sindh during the period.
The PMD said that the weather on Thursday, August 15, 2024 is intermittent rain-windstorm/thundershower (with few heavy rainfalls) is expected in Kashmir, Islamabad, Pothohar region, northeast Punjab and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, rain-windstorm/thundershower is expected in northeastern and south Balochistan and upper/southeastern Sindh during evening/night.
The PMD issued weather warning that torrential rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbella, Sibbi, Kohlu, Harnai, Nasserabad, Zhob, Bolan and Kashmir and Hill torrents of D.G Khan. Heavy Downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar from 15th to 17th August.
Landslides may cause roads closure at the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet period.
Synoptic Situation
The PMD said Monsoon currents from Arabian Sea are penetrating upper/central parts of the country. Strong currents from Bay of Bengal are likely to enter upper parts from today night. A westerly wave is also likely to enter upper parts from today evening/night.
The weather during past 24 hours was mainly hot and humid weather prevailed most parts of the country. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm occurred at isolated places in Kashmir, Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and north Balochistan.
