Lahore, April 17, 2025 — The Pakistan Women’s team has officially qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2025 after securing a convincing 87-run victory over Thailand in a qualifier match held in Lahore on Thursday.
Batting first, the Pakistan Women faced early trouble as their top-order failed to deliver. Shawaal Zulfiqar (6), Muneeba Ali (18), and Aliya Riaz (7) were dismissed cheaply, leaving the team struggling at 47 for 3 by the 20th over. However, the middle-order displayed resilience, with Sidra Amin and captain Fatima Sana orchestrating a remarkable comeback. Their crucial 97-run partnership stabilized the innings and helped Pakistan Women regain control.
Sidra Amin played a patient and determined knock, scoring 80 runs off 105 balls, including nine boundaries. Her innings was instrumental in setting up a competitive total for Pakistan. Skipper Fatima Sana remained unbeaten on 62 from 59 balls, hitting six fours and a six, showcasing both leadership and flair. Pakistan Women eventually posted 205/6 in their allotted 50 overs.
Thailand’s bowlers, including Thipatcha Putthawong, Onnicha Kamchomphu, and Phannita Maya, made early inroads, but could not contain the middle-order surge. Needing 206 to win, Thailand started positively, reaching 44 runs during the powerplay. However, Pakistan’s bowlers quickly turned the game around. Fatima Sana struck to dismiss Nattaya Boochatham, while Rameen Shamim bowled out Nannapat Koncharoenkai in quick succession.
The spin duo of Nashra Sandhu and Shamim proved lethal in the middle overs. Sandhu picked up 3 wickets for 19 runs, while Shamim returned figures of 3 for 18, ensuring Thailand never gained momentum. Pakistan Women dominated the second half of the match with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, sealing the win comfortably.
This victory not only marks a major milestone for Pakistan Women in international cricket but also reflects the rising standards and determination of women athletes in Pakistan. Their qualification for the World Cup 2025 is a proud moment for the nation and a step forward for the future of women’s cricket in Pakistan.
