Pakistani rupee weakens against dollar, ending at PKR 285.40 in Interbank

The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) experienced a decline against the US dollar, closing at PKR 285.40 in the interbank market on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. This depreciation amounted to a decrease of 44 paisas compared to the previous rate of PKR 284.96 at interbank closing.

Currency analysts have attributed this weakening to increased demand for the US dollar in relation to import and other corporate payments. Furthermore, concerns surrounding the potential conclusion of the ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) program have added pressure to the local currency.
