PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Unveils Men’s Selection Committee

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, unveiled the new men’s selection committee lineup during a press briefing held at Pakistan Cricket’s headquarters, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Comprising a total of seven members, the newly unveiled selection committee brings together a formidable blend of experience, insight, and strategic prowess.

Among these esteemed individuals are former Test cricket luminaries Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, and Asad Shafiq, whose collective expertise promises to steer Pakistan’s cricketing fortunes towards new heights.

In addition to these cricketing stalwarts, the committee will also feature the captain and coach of the national men’s team, underscoring a collaborative approach towards player selection and team building.

However, what truly sets this committee apart is the inclusion of a dedicated data analyst, a forward-thinking move aimed at leveraging statistical insights and empirical evidence to inform strategic decisions.

Wahab Riaz, a seasoned campaigner with 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is to his credit, brings a wealth of experience both on and off the field. Having previously chaired the selection committee, Riaz’s astute judgment and keen eye for talent are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Pakistan’s cricketing future.

Mohammad Yousuf, another distinguished member of the committee, boasts an illustrious career marked by 90 Tests, 288 ODIs, and 3 T20Is. Notably, Yousuf’s leadership in guiding Pakistan’s U19 team in prestigious tournaments such as the ACC U19 Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024 underscores his commitment to nurturing emerging talent.

Meanwhile, Asad Shafiq, though recently retired from competitive cricket, leaves behind a legacy of excellence, having represented Pakistan across 77 Tests, 60 ODIs, and 10 T20Is over a remarkable ten-year international career. His insights and perspective are invaluable assets to the committee’s deliberations.

Abdul Razzaq, with 46 Tests, 265 ODIs, and 32 T20Is under his belt, rounds off the committee’s roster, bringing a blend of versatility and experience honed through years of competitive cricket at the highest level.

Notably, the selection committee’s organizational structure deviates from convention, opting for a collaborative model where each member holds equal authority. This egalitarian approach ensures a fair and transparent selection process, free from hierarchical constraints.

Moreover, the committee’s mandate extends beyond senior team selections to encompass U19 and A team selections, underscoring its pivotal role in shaping the broader trajectory of Pakistani cricket.
