The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in coordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, has decided to relocate the second ICC World Test Championship match to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
This move was made to accommodate the ongoing redevelopment of the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, which is being prepared for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
According to a PCB statement, heavy construction equipment has been deployed at the National Bank Stadium, and the tight redevelopment schedule necessitated the change of venue.
The decision ensures that cricket fans will still be able to enjoy the live action of both Test matches, marking the start of a busy international season for Pakistan.
During this period, the national team will participate in nine Test matches, 14 T20 Internationals, and at least 17 One-Day Internationals from August 21 to April 5.
PCB officials emphasized that the construction experts recommended the venue change. While construction could technically continue during the matches, the associated noise pollution would disrupt the players, and the dust from the work could negatively impact the health of the players, officials, broadcasters, and media personnel.
To ensure the stadium is ready for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, uninterrupted construction is crucial. Consequently, after consulting with all stakeholders and considering operational and logistical factors, the PCB decided to host both Test matches in Rawalpindi.
The first Test will kick off in Rawalpindi on August 21, followed by the second on August 30. Meanwhile, in Islamabad, the Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ team will continue their series.
After the first four-day match ended in a draw, the second four-day match is scheduled to start on August 20 at the Islamabad Club, followed by three 50-over matches on August 26, 28, and 30.
For fans looking to attend the matches in Rawalpindi, tickets are available online at PCB.tcs.com.pk. Additionally, a ticket booth at Aviation Ground, opposite Rescue 1122 on Rawal Road, will be open on August 19 at 11 AM. Public parking for match attendees will be provided at Aviation Ground and Government Graduate College Satellite Town on 6th Road.
This relocation underscores the PCB’s commitment to ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted cricketing experience while prioritizing the successful preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy.
