New evaluation framework focuses on performance, fitness, technical skills and mental strength to ensure transparent player selection.

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has finalized a proposed merit-based selection framework for the Pakistan Senior Men’s National Team World Cup Camp, marking a significant step toward enhancing transparency and fairness in player selection.

The newly developed system is designed to ensure that only the most deserving players earn a place in the national training camp ahead of preparations for the upcoming Hockey World Cup.

According to an official statement issued by the federation, the proposed criteria emphasize objective evaluation and performance-based selection rather than subjective assessments.

Under the new framework, players will be assessed across five critical performance areas: tactical awareness, technical proficiency, physical fitness, mental resilience, and overall attitude.

These categories have been identified as essential components for success at the international level and will form the basis of player evaluations during trials and training sessions.

The coaching staff will assign scores ranging from one to five in each of the five categories. To qualify for inclusion in the National Team World Cup Camp, a player must achieve a minimum score of three or higher in at least three of the five evaluation areas. This benchmark has been established to ensure a balanced assessment of a player’s overall capabilities.

PHF stated that the proposed evaluation model has been prepared by the international coaching team working with the federation. The framework draws on globally recognized best practices, continuous player monitoring systems, and detailed technical observations to create a comprehensive selection process.

In a move aimed at increasing accountability, the federation will support the assessment process with digital evidence. Advanced tools such as GPS tracking technology and video analytics will be utilized to provide measurable data on player performance, helping selectors make informed decisions.

The proposed criteria will now be presented to the PHF Selection Committee and the federation’s president for final approval before implementation.

The initiative highlights PHF’s commitment to building a stronger national team through a transparent, data-driven, and merit-focused approach.

As Pakistan intensifies its preparations for the Hockey World Cup, the new selection mechanism is expected to help identify and nurture the country’s most talented hockey players while strengthening confidence in the selection process.
