Shehbaz Sharif pushes accelerated implementation of National Digital Vision to improve governance, transparency, and citizen services
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take immediate steps to ensure that all federal government institutions gain access to the facilities of the newly established Sky 47 Data Center, the country’s central government-operated national data repository.
The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting on the implementation of Pakistan’s National Digital Vision.
The prime minister also instructed officials to convene a meeting of the National Digital Commission at the earliest opportunity to engage all stakeholders, including provincial governments, on the digital transformation agenda.
The National Digital Commission, established under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025, is chaired by the prime minister and includes all provincial chief ministers as members.
The commission is tasked with overseeing the country’s digital modernization strategy and ensuring coordination among federal and provincial institutions.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that a centralized national data center would serve as a unified platform for storing and managing government data.
He noted that such an integrated system would eliminate the need for separate data centers across various institutions, leading to significant savings in public resources and improved operational efficiency.
The premier highlighted the role of the Pakistan Digital Authority in advancing government services and promoting citizen-centric digital solutions.
He stressed that implementing a comprehensive digital framework aligned with modern global standards was essential for creating an integrated and technologically advanced society.
The prime minister praised progress made under the three pillars of the National Digital Vision—digital economy, digital citizen services, and digital government services.
He stated that effective implementation of the policy would strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with international partners and enhance the country’s representation at global forums.
Shehbaz Sharif also directed authorities to prioritize the implementation of digital reforms in critical sectors, including health, agriculture, utilities, housing, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). He said citizens would eventually be able to access a broad range of public services through a single digital identity, including document verification, banking, healthcare, transfers, and other essential services through a unified platform.
Officials informed the meeting that digital transformation initiatives are already underway in agriculture, food, health, energy, housing, and SME sectors, while work is progressing in 14 additional priority areas.
Authorities added that all legal, administrative, and institutional measures required for the full implementation of the National Digital Vision are being expedited, incorporating international best practices and expert recommendations to ensure successful execution.
