Motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered from January 1, 2006, can now qualify for the government’s petrol relief scheme.
ISLAMABAD, September 19, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the inclusion of 20-year-old motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws in the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, expanding the reach of the petrol subsidy programme across Pakistan.
Following the prime minister’s instructions, motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered on or after January 1, 2006, are now eligible for registration under the fuel relief scheme.
The Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme has been rolled out nationwide, under which eligible beneficiaries receive petrol at a subsidised rate of Rs100 per litre.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is personally monitoring the implementation of the scheme and has directed relevant authorities to broaden its outreach.
He has also instructed officials to ensure that beneficiaries receive the petrol subsidy with dignity, convenience and without unnecessary hurdles.
Rs500 weekly relief for smaller purchases
According to a press release issued by the PM Office Media Wing on Saturday, the government has introduced additional flexibility for motorcyclists and owners of rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws who purchase less than five litres of petrol.
Under the prime minister’s instructions, eligible users purchasing less than five litres will receive a Rs500 discount against a single token each week.
One token will be issued every week, allowing beneficiaries to receive a total of four tokens per month.
Relief continues for vehicles up to 800cc
Users of vehicles with engines of up to 800cc will continue to receive a discount of Rs100 per litre on 10 litres of petrol every 10 days, in line with the earlier decision.
Under this arrangement, eligible vehicle owners will receive three tokens for 10 litres of petrol per month.
The government had earlier announced that registration messages sent to individuals eligible for the scheme would be provided free of charge.
Fuel relief expanded to older vehicles
The decision to include motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered from January 1, 2006, is aimed at extending the fuel relief programme to owners of older vehicles.
The expansion follows feedback received from different parts of the country, with the prime minister directing authorities to facilitate a wider group of petrol consumers under the relief initiative.
