PM Shehbaz, Iran President Pezeshkian hold crucial talks on regional peace efforts

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, discussing ongoing diplomatic efforts and the evolving regional security situation.

The 50-minute call reflected growing engagement between Pakistan and Iran, as both leaders exchanged views on initiatives aimed at promoting long-term peace and stability in the region. The conversation was described as warm and constructive, underscoring mutual commitment to dialogue and cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated the participation of a high-level Iranian delegation in recent talks held in Islamabad on April 11–12, 2026. He also welcomed Tehran’s decision to dispatch a delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, which held key meetings in the Pakistani capital, including a two-hour session with the prime minister earlier in the day.

Highlighting his recent diplomatic outreach, Shehbaz Sharif said his engagements with global leaders had helped build broader consensus in favor of sustained dialogue over conflict. He stressed that diplomatic channels remain essential for achieving lasting peace in a region affected by ongoing tensions.

The prime minister also acknowledged the recent discussions held in Tehran between Iranian leadership and Syed Asim Munir, terming them productive for strengthening bilateral understanding. Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, he said the country would continue sincere efforts to promote regional peace and security.

President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s role in advancing peace initiatives and praised contributions by senior Pakistani leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to peaceful engagement and voiced confidence in expanding fraternal ties between the two nations.

The prime minister also conveyed his regards to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination on regional developments and future diplomatic efforts.
