PM Shehbaz Lauds PCB’s Stance on ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended the steadfast position taken by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi regarding the hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. During a meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence on Sunday, Naqvi briefed Shehbaz on recent developments concerning the prestigious tournament.

The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February-March 2025. However, tensions arose after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to send its team to Pakistan, citing the Indian government’s non-issuance of a no-objection certificate (NOC) for travel. The BCCI has proposed a hybrid model, suggesting that India’s matches and the tournament final be relocated to a neutral venue, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In response, Naqvi has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to adopt a reciprocal approach, demanding similar concessions for Pakistan in ICC events hosted by India. This principled stance has garnered praise from the Prime Minister, who highlighted the significance of national pride.

“Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi’s stance reflects the voice and sentiments of 240 million Pakistanis,” said PM Shehbaz. “Pakistan’s prestige is paramount, and everything else is secondary,” he asserted, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the country’s dignity on the global stage.

Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, reaffirmed the PCB’s readiness to host the Champions Trophy, assuring the Prime Minister of the board’s comprehensive preparations. He expressed optimism about the tournament proceeding as planned, stating, “The PCB is fully prepared to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and we want both Pakistan and cricket to emerge victorious.”

Naqvi added that Pakistan is committed to providing a world-class cricketing experience and hoped for positive developments regarding the tournament. The PCB’s determined approach has resonated strongly with the nation, as fans eagerly await the successful hosting of the Champions Trophy, an event poised to elevate Pakistan’s reputation in international cricket.

This development underscores Pakistan’s resolve to assert its rightful place in global cricket while maintaining its dignity and principles amidst challenging circumstances.
