Prime minister prioritizes water reservoirs, hydropower and performance-based funding

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday chaired a meeting to review the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for fiscal year 2026-27, stressing that public funds should be directed toward projects delivering tangible economic results.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the meeting reviewed the current year’s development budget and proposed projects for the upcoming fiscal year.

Water and hydropower projects prioritized

The prime minister said ministries demonstrating stronger performance would receive priority in development fund allocations.

He emphasized that water reservoirs and hydropower projects remain among the government’s top development priorities and directed authorities to give high importance to projects aimed at expanding water storage capacity.

Officials briefed the meeting on progress related to major national infrastructure projects, including Dasu Dam, Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam.

Ministers attend PSDP review meeting

The session was attended by Ishaq Dar, along with federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Hanif Abbasi, Sardar Awais Leghari, Abdul Aleem Khan and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, among other officials.

The prime minister also praised Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb for the successful launch of Panda Bonds and their positive market response.

Government pushes public-private partnerships

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the performance of the ministries of railways, information technology and power.

He further directed authorities to encourage public-private partnerships in development projects to improve efficiency and attract investment.

Officials also briefed the meeting on proposed development schemes and funding requirements under the PSDP for the next fiscal year.
