PMD Forecasts Fresh Spell of Rains Across Punjab

Islamabad, March 1, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a fresh wave of rains across Punjab, set to last from March 2 to March 4.

This weather change is expected to provide relief from the rising temperatures during the early days of Ramadan.

According to the PMD, most districts of Punjab will receive rainfall, including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, and Mandi Bahauddin. Additionally, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, and Toba Tek Singh are expected to witness showers during this period.

Southern regions of Punjab, such as Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan, are also forecasted to receive rain, further contributing to the overall cooling effect across the province.

In the hilly areas of Murree and Galyat, a combination of rain and snowfall is anticipated. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to local authorities, urging them to remain vigilant for possible disruptions due to heavy precipitation. The PMD has also warned of potential landslides in certain areas, advising residents to take necessary precautions.

The PDMA has further instructed key departments, including WASA, Rescue, Irrigation, and Livestock, to remain on high alert. Citizens have been advised to limit unnecessary travel during this period to avoid hazards related to slippery roads and potential flooding. The PDMA’s control room is actively monitoring the situation, and the emergency helpline (1129) is available for immediate assistance.

Following recent rain and snowfall, temperatures in Lahore have dropped, with the city recording a low of 10°C. The weather is expected to stay cold and dry over the next two days, with another PMD-predicted rain system likely arriving by March 3.

Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PMD has forecasted additional rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in the province’s mountainous regions. Affected districts include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, and several others, with wet conditions persisting until March 4. The PDMA has issued safety guidelines, cautioning residents about potential hazards such as falling trees and electricity disruptions.

With this fresh PMD forecast for Punjab, authorities and citizens alike are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe and prepared for the changing weather conditions.
