PMD Forecasts Rain and Snowfall in Pakistan on January 27, 2024

Islamabad, January 26, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rain and snowfall in various regions of Pakistan on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

According to the PMD’s weather report for the specified date, the country can expect predominantly cold weather in most areas, with upper districts experiencing very cold conditions. Light rain, including light snowfall over mountains, is anticipated at isolated locations in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the evening and night hours. Dense fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, contributing to very cold weather in these regions.

In response to the expected conditions, the PMD has issued an advisory urging citizens to exercise caution, particularly in areas affected by dense fog. The advisory emphasizes the persistence of very cold weather due to consistently low daytime temperatures in these fog-affected regions.

The synoptic situation, as described by the PMD, indicates the prevalence of continental air over most parts of the country. Additionally, a shallow westerly wave is anticipated to impact the upper regions of Pakistan, contributing to the forecasted precipitation.

Looking at the weather on Friday, January 26, 2024, the PMD anticipates very cold conditions in most areas of the country, with some upper districts and Balochistan experiencing partly cloudy weather. Isolated places in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may witness light rain, including light snowfall over mountains. Dense fog and smog are expected to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, resulting in very cold weather due to the dense fog.

Reflecting on the weather during the past 24 hours, the PMD reported cold and partly cloudy weather prevailing over most parts of the country. Light rain and drizzle occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and surrounding areas, while dense fog and smog persisted over the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

The recorded lowest minimum temperatures for the day include Skardu at -08°C, Leh at -07°C, Gilgit at -05°C, and Astore, Gupis, Kalam at -04°C. Other areas, such as Bunji, Hunza, Bagrote, Dir, and Rawalakot, recorded temperatures of -02°C.
