Islamabad, December 14, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a weather forecast on Thursday, predicting rain and thunderstorms for Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) on Friday, December 15, 2023.

The PMD outlined that while mainly cold and dry weather is anticipated in most plain areas of the country, upper regions may experience partly cloudy conditions. However, cloudy weather with rain-thunderstorm and potential snowfall over hills is expected in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the northwestern districts of Balochistan.

Fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during both morning and night hours. The PMD also warned of dense fog in a few plain areas of Punjab, urging caution for commuters in affected regions.

For the weather forecast on Thursday, December 14, 2023, the PMD indicated that mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most plain areas of the country. However, western districts of Balochistan may experience cloudy weather with chances of rain. Similar to the previous day, fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, with the possibility of dense fog in specific areas of Punjab.

Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD highlighted that a westerly wave is likely to influence the western parts of Balochistan on the upcoming night, contributing to the forecasted weather conditions.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, with particularly very cold conditions in the northern areas. The recorded lowest minimum temperatures for the day include Leh at -11°C, Skardu at -07°C, Kalam at -06°C, Gilgit and Srinagar at -05°C, Gupis at -04°C, and Kalat, Rawalakot, Dir, and Astore at -03°C.

However, residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on the weather forecast and exercise caution, especially in areas prone to fog and smog, to ensure safe travel and outdoor activities.

As the weather patterns continue to evolve, the PMD will closely monitor the situation and provide timely updates to the public, helping communities and authorities to prepare and respond effectively to changing weather conditions.
