PMD Forecasts Snowfall at Hunza and Kalam on January 1, 2024

Islamabad, December 31, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting snowfall in the picturesque regions of Hunza and Kalam on Monday, January 1, 2024.

The Met office’s weather report for the first day of the new year indicates that Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit, Kaghan, Naran, Skardu, Chitral, Dir, Malam Jabba, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley are expected to experience partly cloudy and cold weather during the first four days of the year. Additionally, light rain and snow are anticipated in Gilgit, Chitral, Skardu, Hunza, and Kalam on Friday.

Ziarat, another prominent location, is forecasted to witness very cold and partly cloudy weather for the next three days, according to the PMD.

The department further elaborated that predominantly cold and dry conditions are expected across most parts of the country, with the northern regions and north Balochistan experiencing very cold temperatures. Dense fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, with fog and smog also expected in upper Sindh, Pothohar region, and plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the night and morning hours.

The weather conditions on Sunday, December 31, 2023, mirrored the PMD’s predictions, with mainly cold and dry weather prevailing over most parts of the country. The northern regions and northern Balochistan experienced very cold and partly cloudy conditions, while dense fog and smog affected the plain areas of Punjab. Similar weather patterns were observed in upper Sindh, the Pothohar region, and the plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Recording the lowest minimum temperatures in the past 24 hours, the PMD listed Leh at -08°C, Skardu at -07°C, Gilgit and Gupis at -05°C, Kalam and Kalat at -04°C, and Chitral and Srinagar at -03°C.
