PMD Forecasts Thundershowers for Multiple Regions on July 5

Islamabad, July 4, 2024 – The Pakistani Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting thundershowers across several parts of the country for Friday, July 5, 2024.

According to the PMD, rain, wind, and thundershowers, with isolated heavyfalls, are expected in various regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Upper and Central Punjab, northeast Balochistan, and Kashmir. Additionally, isolated rain, wind, and thundershowers are likely in Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab.

The PMD has issued a warning highlighting the potential for torrential rains that could lead to flash floods in local nullahs and streams of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, Kashmir, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan from July 5th to 7th. Urban flooding is also anticipated in Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar during the same period.

Furthermore, landslides are expected to disrupt roads in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The synoptic situation, as described by the PMD, involves strong monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, penetrating the upper and central parts of Pakistan. Additionally, a westerly wave is impacting the upper regions of the country, contributing to the weather conditions expected on July 5th.

Looking back at the weather for Thursday, July 4, 2024, the PMD reported rain, wind, and thundershowers, with isolated heavyfalls, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Upper and Central Punjab, and Kashmir. Isolated rain, wind, and thundershower activities were also observed in Gilgit-Baltistan, south Punjab, and northeast Balochistan during the same period.

Over the past 24 hours, hot and very humid weather predominated over most parts of Pakistan. However, there were instances of rain, wind, and thundershowers in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Barkhan.

The PMD also recorded significant rainfall amounts in various locations, including Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gujrat, Islamabad, Jhelum, Lahore, Kasur, Lower Dir, Mardan, Barkhan, Garhidupatta, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Rawalakot. The highest maximum temperatures recorded today were exceptionally high in places like Nokundi, Dalbandin, Sabbi, Panjgur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Chilas, Turbat, and Rohri.
