Thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms expected in Islamabad during next 24 hours
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, windstorms, and isolated hailstorms in Islamabad and surrounding areas during the next 24 hours.
According to the latest weather advisory issued on Thursday, rain accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms is expected in Islamabad during Thursday night and is likely to continue on Friday.
The Met Office said a shallow westerly weather system is expected to enter the western parts of the country, influencing weather conditions in several regions.
Under the broader national forecast, rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms are expected at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, northern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir on Thursday.
On Friday, the weather system is expected to intensify, with scattered rain-windstorms and thunderstorms forecast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, central and upper Punjab, northern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
The PMD said rain and thunderstorms were recorded at isolated locations during the past 24 hours in upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Jacobabad, while hot and dry weather prevailed across most other parts of the country.
Southern districts continued to experience extreme heat, with Mohenjodaro and Dadu recording the highest maximum temperature of 47 degrees Celsius. Larkana, Bahawalnagar, and Shaheed Benazirabad recorded temperatures of 46 degrees Celsius.
Among major rainfall readings, Lahore received significant rainfall, with 42 mm recorded in the city area and 33 mm at the airport.
Weather experts advised residents in affected areas to remain cautious during thunderstorms and hailstorms, particularly due to the possibility of strong winds and localized urban flooding.
